Checking Autoclave Temperatures

Dear Lab Guy, We use total immersion mercury thermometers for checking our autoclave temperatures. Can these readings be taken right after the cycle is done, or does the thermometer need to be read at room temperature?

Fixing a Leaking Burette

Dear Lab Guy, We purchased a few of your 10 mL self-zeroing burettes. We are having a problem with leaking out of the bottom of the glass stopcock. The little rubber O-ring seems to not be doing anything or maybe wasn't designed to keep it from leaking. Do you have any recommendations on how to fix it? We run 0.1N sodium hydroxide through it.

Homogenizing Frozen Samples Efficiently

Dear Lab Guy, I have been trying to homogenize heart tissue in the Bel-Art Mini Liquid Nitrogen Cooled Mini-Mortar set (H37260-0100) The pestle did not reach the bottom of the tube and the tissue got stuck at the bottom, so I did not achieve the desired result. I used regular 1.5ml Eppendorf tubes. Could you please advise me on what can be done about it? Thanks. - Olga M.
